IT Network Technician

Location: Arcade, NY

As a network technician, you will be responsible for the installation, maintenance, and support of networked information systems within an organization. You will ensure network availability to all system users and perform necessary maintenance to support network performance and reliability.

Primary Job Duties

  • Network Installation and Configuration

    • Install, configure, and maintain network equipment including routers, switches, firewalls, and other hardware.
    • Set up and maintain network services, such as DNS, DHCP, VLANs, etc.
    • Ensure network security and connectivity through proper configuration of VPNs and firewalls.
  • Network Monitoring and Optimization:

    • Monitor network performance and troubleshoot problems, escalating as necessary to resolve issues promptly.
    • Optimize network performance through proactive adjustments and upgrades.
    • Conduct regular network assessments and implement improvements as needed.
  • User Support and Training:

    • Provide technical support and guidance to end-users on network-related issues.
    • Assist in the orientation and training of new users in the proper use of network hardware and software.
  • Documentation and Reporting:

    • Maintain network documentation, including network diagrams, hardware and software inventories, and configurations.
    • Generate reports on network health, performance, and security.
  • Network Security:

    • Implement and maintain network security protocols, including firewalls, VPNs, and intrusion detection systems.
    • Monitor network traffic for unusual activity and investigate security breaches.
  • Emergency Response:

    • Respond to network emergencies in a timely manner, including after-hours support as needed.
    • Implement disaster recovery procedures and backup systems.

Qualifications

  • Proven experience as a network technician or relevant position.
  • Solid understanding of network protocols (e.g., TCP/IP, DNS, DHCP) and technologies.
  • Hands-on experience with network equipment (e.g., routers, switches, firewalls).
  • Familiarity with network management and analysis tools (e.g., SNMP, Wireshark).
  • Ability to work independently and as part of a team.
  • Strong problem-solving skills and attention to detail.
  • Excellent communication and interpersonal skills.
  • Relevant certifications (e.g., CompTIA Network+, Cisco Certified Network Associate – CCNA) may be preferred.
  • Full-time, Day shift

Education:

  • A degree in Computer Science, Information Technology, or a related field is preferred.
