HR Director

Location: Arcade, NY

The HR Director provides HR leadership and oversees all aspects of human resource management for assigned locations. This role reports to the President of FCH’s Engineered Components Division. The HR Director is responsible for leading HR policies and procedures, recruiting, compensation and benefits administration, performance management, professional development, and all other HR related initiatives. This role partners with the HR Director of our sister division on things that are harmonized across all of FCH, and the two directors serve as thought partners to each other. This ‘hands-on’ role is also responsible for addressing day to day HR operations and administrative tasks across multiple sites, with support from a Senior HR Generalist. The HR Director will work closely with division and site leaders, as well as provide mentoring to the HR staff.

Primary Duties

  • Lead recruitment and talent acquisition efforts including: job postings, sourcing candidates, pre-screening, conducting interviews, coordinating offers, ensuring effective new hire orientation and employee onboarding, and developing innovative ways to source, attract, and retain top talent.
  • Lead and administer compensation and performance management including: salary benchmarking analysis to ensure market competitiveness, pay grades, equity of base and incentive pay programs, annual and new hire performance reviews, and merit increases.
  • Administer employee benefit plans and assist employees in understanding and evaluating participation in benefit programs. Serve as subject matter expert on employee benefits.
  • Lead organization design efforts including organization structure, job descriptions, and maintaining company organization charts.
  • Mentor and develop HR staff, providing professional development opportunities.
  • Learn and be able to run payroll as a backup to cover absences.
  • Mentor, guide and coach managers on employee performance and career issues and development opportunities.
  • Analyze and report on HR related metrics and how they impact the business, such as turnover, recruiting efficacy, headcount, compensation, etc.
  • Administration of workers compensation including aggressive claims management of restricted duty and lost time. Work with safety manager to maintain OSHA log and compliance records.
  • Partner with Safety and Operations on safety programs and root cause analysis, providing follow up and preventive solutions to reduce accident and incidents.
  • Serve as subject matter expert on Leave of Absence, FMLA, Short and Long-Term Disability, Workers Compensation, ADA, Military, Reasonable Accommodation requests, FLSA, and employment laws in general.
  • Create and deliver professional employee communications including policy or procedure updates.
  • Manage and resolve complex employee relations issues. Conduct effective, thorough and objective investigations.
  • Administer and ensure compliance with company policies and procedures.
  • Support merger and acquisition activity and associated integration of acquired businesses, including employee onboarding, payroll, benefits, and HR systems conversions.
  • Perform other duties as assigned.

Primary Competencies

  • Thorough knowledge of HR principles and practices as well as relevant employment law and regulations.
  • Extensive experience in the administration of HR processes including benefits, compensation, performance management, and related human resource programs.
  • Proven ability to source high quality candidates via networking, internet, and social media.

Qualifications

  • Bachelor’s degree required; Master’s degree preferred.
  • SPHR, SHRM-SCP, PHR or SHRM-CP strongly preferred.
  • At least 10 years of progressively responsible experience including experience in manufacturing or distribution; generalist roles; and roles managing one or more direct reports.
  • Proficient in use of payroll/HRIS systems and benefit provider systems.
  • Occasional travel as needed, including possible travel to Canada. Must have passport or be able to obtain one.
  • Ability to pass a criminal and credit background check.
  • Must be able to perform the physical demands of the job such as:
    • Prolonged periods of sitting at a desk and working on a computer.
    • Ability to physically navigate a manufacturing and distribution environment, and walk throughout a large facility.
    • Physical ability to travel occasionally for work by plane and car
